When:
Nov 17, 2010 - 12:15 pm - 2:00 pm

Deborah Santiago, vice president for policy and research at Excelencia in Education will speak as a guest panelist for, Supporting Success in Postsecondary Education and Training.

This event is third in a discussion group series hosted by the American Youth Policy Forum in partnership with the Campaign for High School Equity.

Session Summary:

It is now widely acknowledged that getting in the door to college does not necessarily lead to college completion. The myriad challenges that youth, particularly low-income and first-generation college students, face as they contemplate the postsecondary environment too often prevent them from persisting beyond the first year of  postsecondary education, and gaps in college graduation rates remain. Innovative programs do exist, however, that prepare students with the academic behaviors and
personal life skills they will need to be successful and help them to get off to strong start in college. This discussion forum will highlight effective programs that support students as they make the transition to postsecondary education and persist in their studies.
