"We are honored to receive the SEMILLAS grant. This award acknowledges Lehman College's ongoing commitment to promoting Latino student success and creating a pipeline to higher education for young people in the community we serve, and beyond."
Join us as we recognize the 2009 Examples of Excelencia at the Associate, Baccalaureate and Graduate levels and release the 2009 edition of What Works for Latino Students in Higher Education Compendium.
Keynote Speaker: U.S. Department of Education Under Secretary Martha Kanter
Today only 13% of Latinos, as opposed to 30% of all other adults in the United States, have a bachelor's degree. Although institutions of higher education are attempting to meet the educational needs of the nation's fastest growing community, without effective strategies, too few are achieving results.
Excelencia in Education responds to this challenge through a uniquely results-driven approach that is inspiring and informing policy makers and institutions about practices and policies that yield better outcomes for Latino students. The Examples of Excelencia initiative annually identifies and promotes effective programs and departments producing positive results for Latino students and all students.
"We are honored to receive the SEMILLAS grant. This award acknowledges Lehman College's ongoing commitment to promoting Latino student success and creating a pipeline to higher education for young people in the community we serve, and beyond."
-Dr. Ricardo R. Fernandez, President, Lehman College
