Overview

Return to HSIs Over the Years Main Page

It has been 25 years since Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) were first funded under federal legislation (the Higher Education Act). Because the definition of HSIs is based on the concentrated enrollment of Latino students, and the numbers of Latino students grows every year, the numbers of HSIs has also grown every year.

This compilation provides a snapshot of the evolution of HSIs over 25 years. Included in this publication are twelve one-page fact sheets on HSIs, Emerging HSIs, and HSIs with Graduate programs from 1994-95 to 2018-19, looking at changes in: enrollment, sector, racial and ethnic representation of students, geography, Title V funding, and more over these 25 years.
