Hispanic-Serving Institutions Data: 2022-2023

In this series, we provide an analysis of three groups of institutions: 1) Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), 2) Emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions (eHSIs), and 3) HSIs with Graduate Programs (gHSIs) based on publicly available data for 2022-23.

HSIs are defined in federal legislation as accredited, degree-granting public or private nonprofit institutions of higher education with 25% or more total undergraduate Hispanic full-time equivalent (FTE) student enrollment. Excelencia developed the Emerging HSIs (eHSI category)—institutions with undergraduate FTE Hispanic enrollment of 15-24.9%—to track the growth of potential HSIs. The list of institutions identified as HSIs in these analyses is not intended to designate eligibility for any specific program; rather, the list is meant to assist in considering and analyzing the institutions that meet the basic legislative definition of an HSI. The following lists were created using data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).
