Published By San Diego Union Tribune Published On April 19, 2022 San Diego State University impacts our community every single day. Take a moment and look around you; you will find a neighbor, a co-worker or a family member who is an SDSU alumnus. From San Diego’s Pacific coast to the state line out east, people look to SDSU to prepare themselves for their careers, then stay here to live. As we celebrate our 125th anniversary and the contributions of our nearly 500,000 alumni, our entire regional community should feel part of (and invited to!) our festivities and events honoring San Diego’s oldest university. We achieve so much for our region, state and globe while our achievements in serving our diverse community draw acclaim. Last year, SDSU was proud to be named one of 10 institutions receiving a national certification from Excelencia in Education due to our success in closing the educational equity gap and increasing Hispanic degree holders. SDSU has also been recognized as both a First-gen Forward Advisory Institution and an Age-Friendly University, and has received federal designation as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution.
