Overview

The Dual Enrollment Academy (DEA) Programs were introduced in 2005 to provide Hispanic students a unique opportunity, in which high-achieving high school juniors earn an associate degree from South Texas College tuition-free while completing their high school graduation requirements.

Program Description

Through partnerships with school districts, parents, and the community the Academies successfully serve more than 250 students annually through 5 academies across 3 campuses. The Academies focus on Medical Science, Engineering, Criminal Justice,  Business Administration, and Teaching. The academies allow participants to gain exposure to a college atmosphere at an early age, while having the opportunity to receive hands-on experiences. Additionally, every Friday the program hosts professionals from local universities to speak to the students about various bachelor degrees, financial aid, campus housing, admissions, and more.

Outcome

  • From 2005 to 2023, over 1,500 students have graduated with an associate’s degree through the program.
  • 100% of students completing the Academy Programs have successfully transitioned to 4-year institutions.
  • In Spring 2023, Academy Program Graduates were offered over $4.7 Million in Scholarships.
  • Since 2005, students have been offered over $37.3 Million in Scholarships.
