Fast Facts - Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs): 2016-17 Excelencia in Education May 2018 Overview This infographic shows the fast facts on HSIs in 2016-2017. There are 492 HSIs. HSIs are institutions that have 25% or more undergraduate full time equivalent Hispanic enrollment. HSIs represent 15% of all institutions of higher education. HSIs enroll 65% of all Latino undergraduates in higher education. HSIs are present in 21 states and Puerto Rico. While 84% were located in 6 states and Puerto Rico, there were also HSIs in states less expected such as Connecticut, Oregon, Tennessee, and Washington. There are 333 Emerging HSIs. Emerging HSIs are institutions with 15-24.9% Latino enrollment. There are 192 HSIs offering graduate degrees. This accounts for 39% of all HSIs. Suggested citation: Excelencia in Education. (2018).
